SUTD Entrepreneurship Capstone
The Entrepreneurship Capstone is a pre-accelerator programme that allows final year undergraduates to embark on an entrepreneurial project as their Capstone Project. It aims to equip students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skillset to bring a product from conceptualisation to implementation in the market.
Programme Format
Each team comprises 4-6 students from at least 2 different pillars:
-
Engineering System Design (ESD),
-
Engineering Product Design (EPD),
-
Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD), and
-
Information System and Technology Design (ISTD)
The objectives of the Entrepreneurship Capstone project are:
-
To create a minimum viable product (MVP)
-
To create and validate a business model
-
To equip the students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skillset to bring a product from conceptualisation to implementation in the market
-
Prepare the team to pitch for funding at the end of the capstone
Entrepreneurship capstone projects must fulfil both business and technical requirements. The project will be assessed by both entrepreneurship mentors and technical faculties through validation process comprising 3 days entrepreneurship Bootcamp, 3 weeks project validation and project pitching session.
They will then commence the project work during the Capstone terms, between January to August, with a matching grant from the University. During this period, mentoring sessions and practical workshops will be conducted to guide the students through the project and equip them with entrepreneurial skillsets.
At the end of the capstone, students are encouraged to spin off their project into an actual startup. A demo day will be organised for the teams to pitch their ideas to investors to kick start their entrepreneurship journey
